Pringles for pocket change, free hairspray and free Excedrin, oh my!

Ok, so I always heard about people "CVSing" meaning they would get amazing deals, including things for free plus overage. I never understood how until I tried it. Every week, new deals come out and if you use your CVS card and buy certain items, you will get what's called Extra Care Bucks (ECB). Well we love Pringles in this house and just our luck, they were on sale at CVS for $.88 a can. I saw that Pantene shampoo and conditioner gave you 1 ECB when you buy 1 of each, and Colgate toothpaste gave you 2 ECB. Well I had coupons for both. So I got a bottle of Shampoo and conditioner, plus the 1 ECB, plus a $3.00 off coupon. I also had a coupon for a free styling product when you purchase a Pantene shampoo and conditioner. Then I bought the Colgate, used my $.75 off coupon, and got 2 ECB. I did two separate transactions. With my receipt from my first transaction, out popped my 3 ECB. I then bought 8 cans of Pringles. That brought my total to $7.04 for the 8 cans (at $.88 each). I used my 3 ECB from the first transaction which now brings my total to $4.04, and 4 coupons that I had for the Pringles, which was save $1.00 on two cans. Well I bought 8 cans, 4 coupons at $1.00 off each now brings my total to, yes you guessed it, $.04!!! So yes, I got 8 cans of Pringles for $.04!!!!
I was so excited that I just HAD to buy more, someway somehow. Sadly, I used all of my Pringles coupons, so I had to find another way...
I looked back through the weekly ad and looked to see if I had anymore coupon matches, or needed anything that would give me more ECB.
I saw that their usual $5.99 20 count Excedrin was on sale for $1.99. Well I had a coupon for $2.00! I also saw that Skintimate shave gel was $3.49, more than I would pay for, especially having no coupon for it, but it would give me $3.49 in ECB.
So I did another two transactions. First I bought my Excedrin (which was free thanks to the sale and my coupon!) and the Skintimate shave gel. Out printed my receipt and $3.49 in ECB. So, I bought ANOTHER 4 cans of Pringles (I told you we love these things!). The total was $3.52 for the 4 cans, I used my $3.49 from the first transaction, now brining my total to $.03!!
So, now we have 12 cans of Pringles that will not expire until November of this year (which I can assure will get eaten well before then!) that I bought for a total of $.07!!!! That's less than a penny each!
So now CVS definately has me hooked!!

Did I mention I love Publix?

Ok so today I went into Publix, knowing that Kingsford charcoal is on sale for $6.99. I used a $3.00 off charcoal coupon I got from Food Lion, bringing it to $3.99 for a huge bag. There was also a peelie on the charcoal for $3.00 off any type of meat. So I got a huge piece of steak for $.73. I also bought another bottle of Purex because I had a coupon for a free fabric softener when you buy detergent. I used that with the $.55 off the softener and $.35 off detergent. My total for detergent, fabric softener, charcoal and steak was $12.30. The bottom of my receipt said I saved $14.27. So I saved more than I spent!
I also wanted to say that yesterday I was in Publix as well and bought 2 bags of Fresh Express that were on sale for $2.50 a bag. I had $1.00 off coupon. Cherry tomatoes were BOGO. I had a $2.00 of any $5.00 produce purchase from Food Lion. I call that a helluva deal!
On top of all this, there was a manager that had just gotten off work standing in line in front of me in the Customer service desk. I was going to ask if they had anymore All well and good booklets since they were out in the front display. Being off duty, he still took the time to look for it for me. He then found me, and handed two to me. I used 2 $1.00 off Ocean Spray cranberry juices since they are BOGO.

You HAVE to stand your ground!

I was in Publix yesterday, did my grocery shopping, saved $27.14 just in coupons. My total cost for groceries was $57.72, and that is including postage stamps, detergent, meat, cereal, and a big bag of charcoal. The deals I found included a Publix coupon- Buy a 100 oz. Purex detergent, get a 40 oz. fabric softener free. I also found a $.35 off Purex detergent, and a $.55 off Purex softener to go along with that. So I paid $3.85 for both the detergent and the softener. Another great deal I found was a $6.00 off coupon for an 18 lb. bag of charcoal when you buy one other participating brands. Vlasic pickles are bogo free right now, and I had 2 $1 off coupons from Target, along with a $3 food lion coupon for charcoal.
It was such a great deal, a few minutes later I decided to go back. I couldn't wait because the Target coupons expired that day so I wanted to take advantage (and who doesn't like pickles?!).
So I went back to Publix. However, just my luck I came across a cashier that actually took the time to argue with me that she could not accept 2 manufacturer coupons for the charcoal (the food lion coupon said manu on the top, but it's still competitor). So I had to get a manager involved, and had to bare the eye rolls and dirty looks, and the people behind me putting their stuff back in their cart and choosing another line. All in all, was it worth it?
COMPLETELY. I got an 18 lb. bag of charcoal and 2 jars of Vlasic pickles for $1.88 including tax.
Moral of my blog today: You have to stand your ground, be bold, and only be focused on what is going on between you and the cashier. Have no apologies for your frugalness and do not be afraid to speak up.

First things first...

I had seen one too many episodes of Oprah to know that I, too, can be the lady you see on t.v. who pays only a percentage of her grocery bill. What I thought would be a fun hobby, is starting to be a side job. Sure, it takes time to clip coupons, and to see what's on sale where, and for how much, etc. But I almost feel like I am getting paid to do what I do because I have so much more left in my pocket. I will never again pay full price on my grocery bill knowing that with a little time and effort (and a good pair of scissors!) you could be paying tons less. I have already saved over $90 and I have only done 2 grocery runs. I am extremely new at this, but I strive to get better and more frugal as the days pass. There's nothing wrong with a little coupon clipping...
